SPECSStatus: For Sale at $520 Size: 18"/46cm Frame: Tange MTB Double Butted Cr-Mo with Ritchey Dropouts Fork: Rock Shox Quadra (rebuilt) Groupset & Brakeset: Shimano STX (MC-30) Wheelset: Specialized Z23 Rims on STX Parallax hubs with Maxxis Pace 26x2.1 Tires BEFOREI took this one as a trade-in for Project #26, another purple Rockhopper. The paint and groupset seemed to be in good shape and I really liked the colour. These Rockhoppers are great bikes so I didn't mind getting another one. Unfortunately, when I was taking this one apart, I noticed that the headset was only hand-tight. When I pulled the fork out, I saw that the threads were completely worn away making the fork impossible to be used safely. AFTERSo, to rebuild this bike I needed to find a fork. Remarkably, Bike Karma struck again! I had a 1993 Rock Shox Quadra fork that happened to be threaded, not threadless and happened to be 1", not 1 1/8" and happened to be of the proper length for the head tube and headset. If you've ever worked on bikes, you'll know how remarkable that is! And to add to the Karma, it even had the same colour of purple in the logo. Oh yeah, one more thing. After a rebuild, it worked like new again.
The rest of the rebuild went without drama. The paint restored beautifully and the parts all worked well after a good cleaning in the ultrasonic cleaner. This build ended up with new grips, cables and housing, chain, brake pads, tires, tubes, saddle and seat post. It's working like it was brand new and will make someone very happy, for sure!
