A Pinarello Mountain Bike? Pavan was the house brand of Antonio Pavan's Pinarello shop in Mississauga, ON. Pavan had the frames hand-made in Treviso, Italy at the Pinarello factory and final assembly was done at the Pavan Pinarello shop in Mississauga. They were sold with the Pavan decals on the mainframe and the Pinarello decal on the head tube. When I bought this, it had been repainted with a very poor rattle-can paint-job (after a shoddy job of masking off the headbadge) and was desperate to be restored back to a beautiful condition that was befitting of the Pinarello name.
Stripping the red, rattle-can paint off this bike was challenging. It had been painted directly over the original paint so it was on pretty thick. The original colour was white with fluorescent yellow, green and pink speckles. Very 90s! I wanted to make the paint job classy and I wanted the Pinarello name to be prominent. I turned the Pavan into the model name on the toptube. I made the Pinarello decals myself using Photoshop and cut them out with my Cricut. The headbadge and tubing decals came from VeloCals. Notice that the fade from blue down to red matches the colouring on the head badge. The Deore DX groupset, one of my favourites, polished up beautifully. The shifting is solid and precise and the brakes work well. The build includes new cables and housing, new Kool Stop brake pads, new tires and tubes, a new chain and a new Selle Italia Turbo saddle.
